***NOTE: Graveside Services In Loving Memory of Mrs. Barbara Jean Johnson will be held 12 Noon Friday, April 30, 2021 THE OBITUARY Mrs. Barbara Jean Johnson went home to be with the Lord on April 14, 2021 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was born October 31, 1948 the daughter of Leo McFadden and Ernestine (Johnson) Mitchell in Kalamazoo. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Addis Moore. She attended Kalamazoo Public Schools and later graduated from Old Kalamazoo Central High School. Barbara was employed at Swift Eckrich and retired from there after many years. She later decided to come out of retirement and worked for Mead, a paper company for several years. Barbara enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, which included: Family Feud and shows on the Lifetime Channel. She also loved to watch “In The Heat of the Night” and would sing along with the theme song! She also loved to watch movies and her favorites were “Coming To America”, “Lean On Me” and “Life”. Barbara was a people-person, who loved to socialize with family and friends, play Bingo and card games. She was a good cook who was known for her macaroni salad. Barbara was a giving person with a big heart. She loved to laugh and make others laugh. To spend time with her was a joy. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Nathaniel Johnson Jr.; her daughter, Patricia R. Johnson (“Poon”/Patty”) parents, Leo McFadden and Ernestine (Johnson) Mitchell; a brother Ervin Evans; and a sister, Beverly Jones. She leaves to cherish her memory, 3 daughters, Sherry Wright (Donald Ray Wright, Sr.); Gail (James Jr.) Casey, and Carmilla Edward “Doc” Mattox) Johnson; siblings: Jesse Mitchell and Sydney Mitchell of Kalamazoo; Will Evans, Melvin Evans, Sylvester Evans, Carlton Evans, Phyllis Evans, Regina Mitchell and Robert Mitchell all of Peoria, IL; grandchildren Donald Ray Wright Jr., Taquela Renee Benson, Terica Lashae Wright, Nathan Cedric Johnson, Natalie Danielle Davis and Nicole Donielle Davis, Daniel Ramon Lavender and Russell Williams Jr.; niece, Maigann Brooks; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
