Dorothy Laverne Anderson

Dorothy Laverne Anderson graced this world with her presence October 29th 1951, born to the angelic Magnolia Anderson and husband Joe in Inverness, Mississippi. This southern bell relocated with her family to Kalamazoo Michigan, bringing those strong southern values and principles instilled in her to a new home where she began to forge her own legacy. Dorothy was no stranger to hard work, that same diligence, commitment and passion she lived her life with, also resonated in her professional life spanning a career of about 25+ years at the Sisters of Saint Joseph. Dorothy was an intelligent woman and a very savvy businesswoman who led by example and is the physical embodiment of what can be achieved by hard work, commitment and patience. Of all those fortunate enough to have known Dorothy, the relationship she had with her 6 sisters Jo Ann, Gloria, Lilly, Latifah, Brenda, Cynthia (Kay), and Carolyn was truly unique and very beautiful. She had the love and adoration of all her nieces and nephews but instilled a very distinct love in her own children Jeanette, Tony, Michael and David. That love helped them grow to become loving, independent upstanding children of God as she was. Dorothy loved not only her children but her grandchildren with all that she was. Through that love, they will continue to honor her name, memory and legacy. Jaxyn, Raynard Jr., Qualita, Tony Jr., Arnesha, Antonia, Blake, Tyler, Bailey, Michael Jr., Trevor, Dasha, DeShaun, David Jr., Davion, Patricia, Jared and her personal favorite Dominick. The lineage continues and the heavens blessed us all with the miracle to have met Dorothy, but also for her to have met her great-grandchildren Gabrielle, Dominick II, Moni and Khyair. These are the names of her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren BUT only a small number in the infinite lives that Dorothy has touched. Dorothy lived a blessed and rich life that afforded us the gift of a last celebration of her life in the comfort of her own home that included a birthday dinner in the presence of her loved ones, courtesy of her 4 children Jeanette (the most beautiful and her exact copy), Tony, Michael and David. Dorothy transitioned from this life to the next to return home to the heavens peacefully during the early morning hours Tuesday, November 7th the year of our Lord 2017 surrounded by loved ones to ease that transition. Dorothy left her earthy family only to be greeted by her heavenly family, mother Magnolia (the most elegant of the angels), father Joe, Husband Sammie, and sister Kay.
