Mr. James Moore

James Moore was born to Josephine Jones on March 27, 1946, in Greenville, Mississippi. He was adopted by Josephine’s brother, Robert Moore and his wife, Beatrice Malchom Moore. He spent his entire childhood in Greenville where he was very active in the church and in school. He accepted Christ as a child and was a faithful member, along with his parents, of the Greater Hinds Street Baptist Church. His father served as a deacon at the church and his mother was founder and long-time president of the usher ministry. James loved singing and was a member of the choir. He attended Coleman High School where he participated in many activities. Along with winning many academic awards, he also sang in the choir and was a member of the track team. After graduating high school, James enlisted in the United States Army and served for three years active duty stationed in Germany, and four years as a reservist. While in the Army, he earned the rank of Sergeant and trained as an expert marksman, armory driver and other duties. He earned an honorable discharge in 1967. After his discharge James relocated to Battle Creek, Michigan. He worked for the state of Michigan for 32 years in nursing and retired from the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital in 1997. James was very personable with a keen sense of humor. He loved to laugh and to share laughter with others. James enjoyed many activities including tennis, photography, cooking and collecting memorabilia. He was preceded in death by Josephine Jones, Robert and Beatrice Moore and Annie Mae and Harvey Pernell. James is survived by his children Antonio Belenor, Battle Creek, Michigan; Angela Solomon, Battle Creek, Michigan; Jason Moore (Charlon), Denver, Colorado; Erica Snyder (William), Scottsdale, Arizona; his sister Glenda Brooks, Little Rock, Arkansas; his cousin Dennis Pernell, Toledo, Ohio; his cousin Rose Garrett, Sonoma, California; a very special friend Barbara Fullerton, Battle Creek, Michigan; and nine grandchildren. ***IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, THE FAMILY REQUESTS THAT DONATIONS BE SENT TO THE: SALVATION ARMY AND THE KALAMAZOO GOSPEL MISSION
