Ms. Kamilah S. Porter

Kamilah Sharr Porter, 36 years old, passed away April 5, 2014 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born July 7, 1977 the daughter of Cheri Lynn Porter Williams in Kalamazoo, MI. She graduated from Kalamazoo Public Schools and later went on to attend Kalamazoo Valley Community College, studying Business Administration and also courses to become a Physical Therapist. She was employed for many years in banking and was employed as Loan Officer for Advia Credit Union, until she became ill. Kamilah enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her children, Alexis and Kevonte. She was known to be a hard-working, smart and glamourous woman. She was always helping anyone in need, she was a great cook and loved hosting family and friends. She was a romantic who enjoyed traveling, making scrap books, and taking photos. Also known as a “Shopping Queen” she was known for her dress and hair styles—and as all Diva’s know, getting her hair done is a must! She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her grandfathers, Richard Williams , Jr. and Fred McKinney, and her grandmother, Mary Marie Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 children, Kevonte Karim Porter; Alexis Amone Porter both of Kalamazoo; her parents; Richard and Cheri Williams; 3 brothers, Reginald Porter, Andre Juron Gardner, and Khary Rashad Williams all of Kalamazoo; grandmother Mary Porter of Kalamazoo; 1 niece, Alana Porter; 6 nephews, Reginald Porter Jr., Dontrail Dixon, Dentrey Gardner, Knowledge Price, Cervonte Plair, Malaki Wright; uncles: Tommy (Tojia) Williams, Tracy (Angie) King all of Kalamazoo; Mack Freeman of Mississippi, and Donald King of Grand Rapids ; 4 aunts, Sandra ( Robert) Brown, Pearlene (Robert) Hannah, Ludora Porter and Anita (Robert) Wilkerson all of Kalamazoo; Teresa (Ricky) Darden of Kalamazoo; Gladis Carter of Chicago; great aunt Lula Hicks of Toledo and Janie Mae Lockett; great great aunt, Nita Mae Lockett of Kalamazoo; great uncles, Twillie (Marie) Williams; Governor Williams and Daniel Williams; great uncles, Maurice Dunning, Joseph (Rose) Dunning, Acie (Daisy) Burroughs; and a host of cousins and friends.
