PLEASE CONTACT THE FUNERAL HOME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS**** LaVelle Javon Guess Sr. 41 passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 3:59 pm peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. LaVelle battled Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) for four years. LaVelle was born September 16, 1978, to Clouetta Guess and the late Jerome Thompson in Inkster, MI. On April 24, 2004 he married his best friend Kimberly Buchanan in Kalamazoo, MI. The two met while playing basketball for KVCC, where he achieved his Associates degree in 1998 and have been together ever since. LaVelle enjoyed playing basketball, softball and bowling. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his family, friends and his “Petty Crew.” But most of his time was spent with his “pride and joy” LaVelle Javon Guess II, affectionately known as “LJ.” LaVelle worked hard to provide for his family, working at Target Distribution and Graphic Packaging until he no longer could. LaVelle and his twin Lorenzo Guess were recently inducted into the Wayne Memorial High School Hall of Fame for both basketball & football. The family was recently informed that the yearly Holiday Tournament will be named after LaVelle and a picture of him will be placed on the winner’s trophy. Left to cherish the memory of LaVelle is his wife Kimberly and his only child LJ Guess of Kalamazoo, MI; mother Clouetta Guess of Inkster,MI; mother and father in-love David (Annette) Buchanan of Kalamazoo, MI; sister Tazeria (Roger) Bethune of Bellville, MI, and Ashley Guess of Inkster, MI; brothers Sean (Monica) Hunter, Jerome Thompson and Allen Lavender of Inkster, MI, Anthony (Jonyelle) Buchanan of Dallas, TX and David Smith of Kalamazoo, MI; twin brother Lorenzo (Bianca) Guess of Lansing, MI; five special Godchildren Kortni Reynolds, Ariyanna and DJ McClain, Jordan and Jackson Griffin; his best friends along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins who he cherished dearly. He was preceded in death by his father Jerome Thompson; grandparents Ruth Guess and Ruthie Thompson. LaVelle made sure he lived his best life all the way to the end, he was thankful for all the memories made in the last 4 years and wanted to encourage all the people he touched to live everyday like it’s their last.
