****PLEASE NOTE: Visitation Times & Location (with Tribute from the Eastern Stars Organization during portion of visitation at funeral home) Also, Funeral Service Location & Time Listed Below***** Mrs. Queen Esther Hobbs was born on February 21, 1929 in Fannin, Mississippi the fourteenth of fourteen children born to the late Hardy Hobbs and Lillie King Hobbs. On the morning of August 3, 2019, Mother Fountain transitioned to eternal life. Queen Esther Hobbs graduated from New Hymn High School in Pinola, Mississippi on April 1947. She then became a part of the Great Migration” moving to Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1947. In the same year, she met the love of her life, Hurvey (lovingly known as “Jack” or “Pete”) Fountain. They were united in Holy Matrimony on November 25, 1948 and to this union five children were born. They were married for over 65 years. Queen Esther Fountain was a dedicated wife and homemaker who also worked outside of the home most notably at J.C. Penney and Old Kent Bank in Kalamazoo. Mother Queen Esther accepted Christ at a very early age. She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she served in various capacities including the Mother’s Board and Mission Board. In December of 2008, she was honored with a Proverbs Virtuous Woman Award and in 2015 she was honored by her pastor, Dr. Michael T. Scott, Sr. who presented her with a plaque for her faithful and dedicated service. Queen Esther Fountain began her community involvement on November 17, 1964 after joining the Zorah Chapter Order of the Easter Star, P.H.A. Jurisdiction of Michigan. This lead to a membership in the Order of The Golden Circle, Faith Assembly #63 and Al Zabir Court #141. She actively served in these organizations in various roles until she was no longer able to serve. Queen Esther was the neighborhood representative for the March of Dimes and the Red Cross for which she faithfully mailed envelopes to her neighbors every spring. She was supportive of her children and grandchildren as they grew up, being known for her chocolate chip cookies and making the best toast with jelly in the world. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hurvey James Fountain Sr.; sons, Hurvey James Fountain Jr. and Steven Louis Fountain; 12 siblings, Avie Hobbs, Daisy Mitchell, Annie Bell Weathers, Louise Scott, Ella Mae Miller, Lou Della Hobbs, Hardy Hobbs, Louis Hobbs, Oscar Hobbs, Bud Hobbs, Sidney Hobbs and Emma Ruth McCoy. Mother Queen Esther Fountain leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Jackie Smith of Chicago, IL; sons, Gregory Fountain Sr. and Gary Fountain both of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Hurvey III, Antoinette, Gregory Jr., Ryan (Genesis), and Marissa; 5 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandson; one sister, Fannie Jane Barbour of Kalamazoo;a special nephew, Melvin (Helen) Fountain and a host of family and friends.
