Mrs. Ruby L. Brandon

Mother Ruby Brandon began her eternal life on Wednesday August 2, 2017. She was born March 4, 1922 in Chickasaw County, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Savannah and Wiley Gladney. She gave her life to Christ at a early age and united with the Zion Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Okolona, MS. Ruby was united in marriage July 18, 1942 to Robert L. Brandon and to this union 7 children were born. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, a loving neighbor and loving friend. Ruby was a Kalamazoo resident since 1950 and lived in the same home for 52 years Mother Brandon was a longtime and faithful member of the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reb. Mabry Gardner, where she served on the Mother’s Board and the Senior Mission Auxiliary until her decline in health. Mother Brandon enjoyed the company of friends and family when she traveled to various states. She also loved to read and write her thoughts as poetry and loved making teacakes and biscuits for the family. Her grace and enduring spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert L. Brandon Sr.; 2 sisters, Alma Gladney and Arty L.; her husband Deacon Robert Edwards and brother, Gaston Gladney. Mother Brandon leaves to celebrate her life and to continue her legacy: 7 children, Bobby (Madeline) Brandon of Buffalo, NY; Darnel (Joanne) Brandon of Arlington, VA; Robert (Sally)Brandon, Lester and Belinda Brandon Anglen all of Kalamazoo; Estella Jones and Laverne (Alvin) McAfee of Denver, CO; 20 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Annie Bell Gathings and Sara (Gene) Hykes of St. Louis, MO and Della Taylor of Michigan City, IN; sister-in-laws, Martha Phillips and Mandy Lawrence of Milwaukee, WI; and brother-in-laws, Myron and Ervin (Birdie) Jarmon of Detroit, MI; special mention of Michael (Andrea) McKinley, Lynel M. Hackley, Irene Ryan and Katie Johnson; and special circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also, church families Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Living Hope Bible Church of Denver, Colorado and Galilee Baptist Church.
