SOCIAL DISTANCING IS ALSO STILL REQUIRED**** If you have any questions please contact us at: (269) 342-1000 _____________________________ The Obituary Annette Lynn Buchanan, more affectionately known as Ann, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 2:48 p.m. with a smile on her face, surrounded by her husband, family and friends. Ann was born July 11, 1957 to the late Kallie D. Haley and Robert L. Haley Sr. in Kalamazoo, MI. Ann was the baby in the family but acted as the leader and glue that held the family together. On April 22, 1978 Ann married the love of her life, David Glen Buchanan in Kalamazoo, MI. The two met when she walked down Ada St. with her daisy duke shorts, halter top and larger than life afro. Ann and Dave were married 43 years and they were the epitome of unconditional love. Ann worked for Kalamazoo Public Schools at Hillside Middle School for over 30 year; she touched the lives of so many young people. She enjoyed singing in the choir, reading, shopping, traveling and spending quality “sister time.” Ann loved her family with every fiber of her being; from her biological siblings the Haley’s, to her siblings by marriage the Buchanan's. She opened her heart to her friends, nieces, nephews and her special “adopted children.” She will be remembered with love by the nieces and nephews. She baked wedding cakes for each as they moved into adulthood. The cakes were her gift to the children she loved. Ann spent most of her time with her children and her “little angels,” her grandchildren, whom she would do anything for. Left to cherish the memory of Ann is her husband David Buchanan; her children: David (Toni) Smith and Kimberly Guess both of Kalamazoo,MI; and Anthony (Jonyelle) Buchanan of Mesquite, TX; Grandchildren, Jalen Smith, Taraji Leonard, Lavelle Guess II and Carter Buchanan; Siblings Barbara Haley, Patricia (James Cook) Brown, Mary (Carl) Roberts, Lonnie (Kathryn) Haley all of Kalamazoo, MI, Robert (Faye) Haley, Jr. of Olive Branch, MS and Larry (Patricia) Haley of Kalamazoo, MI; her siblings of the heart the Buchanan's; Alice Buchanan, Marie DaVall, Mittie DeVould, Ida Buchanan, J.L. (Terry) Buchanan, Brad (Peggie) Buchanan, Hal (Janet) Buchanan all of Kalamazoo, MI; Betty (Jackie) Owens of Okolona, MS; Special brother, George (Ramona) McMillion; Best friend, Rhonda (Sam) Little; Godchildren Daymeon, Romeo and Kareem Little all of Kalamazoo, MI. She also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, friends and co-workers. Ann was preceded in death by both of her parents; Robert and Kallie Haley, Grandmother Willie Hughes, Son-in-love, Lavelle Guess Sr.; Siblings of the heart, John Buchanan, James Buchanan and Willie Earl Buchanan. Ann was a true gem and a gift from God. She was a survivor! She faced stage four breast cancer, fought congestive heart failure and four open heart surgeries. She faced life, repeating her battle cry, “God has not given me a spirit of fear…” 2 Timothy 1:7, while living with an LVAD machine and on dialysis for over six years. Ann loved everyone just as Christ loved her, her presence will truly be missed.
