Mrs. Arstillure Tubbs

Arstillure Tubbs went home to be with her Lord January 5, 2017 with her family by her side. She was born August 9, 1917 in Houlka, MS and was the 5th of 12 children born to Thomas and ModDessie (Hill) Lipsey, She accepted Christ at an early age at Wesley Chapel CME Church in Houston, MS. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Tubbs on July 15, 1936 and to that union, Modean and Jerry were born. The family moved to Kalamazoo in 1941 and united with the Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served on both the Mother's and Deaconess Board and sang in the Senior and Chancel Choirs. Whenever there was a serous situation that needed her attention you could hear her singing, "Pass me not, O Gentle Savior". Arstillure loved gardening and could be found in her yard and even at the Ecumenical Senior Center caring for plants and flowers. She was employed at Borgess Medical Center, where she loved working in Labor and Delivery with the babies. She retired from Borgess after over 35 years of service. After retirement, she continued working by taking care of the children of many family and friends while their parents were at work. She was known to many family members as "Big Auntie" who loved to cook. The family looked forward to her preparing her delicious pound cakes, dressing, pineapple coconut cakes....and the list goes on! She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. Lloyed Tubbs; brothers, George Willie, Augthery, Alex, Ira Lee and Thomas Jr.; sister, Annie Enouch, Bessie Jennings, Lucille Crawford, Daisy, and Ophelia; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and a grandson who was dear to her heart, Vincent Tubbs. She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Modean (Hubert) Reeves, Jerry (Dorothy) Tubbs all of Kalamazoo and Robert Weathington of San Antonio, TX; her grandchildren, Dexter Johnson, Tiffiany, Ryan and Frank (Lanae) Tubbs of Kalamazoo. Also, her great grandchildren who were dear to her heart: Vincent (Danielle); Kamarion Tubbs of Battle Creek, MI; Keelon Dennard of Grand Rapids, MI; Shawndel, Tyshavius, Ashanti, Ashantia, Priscilla, Jacorey; several others of Kalamazoo, and Donald and Shania Johnson of Georgia; two brothers, Columbus of Kalamazoo and Chester B. of Mississippi; several nieces and nephews she felt very close to; a special daughter/niece , Hattie Head of Kalamazoo, MI and a special cousin, Bishop Stephen Reid of South Bend, IN.
