Sis. Billie Mae Dunigan

Sis. Billie Mae Dunigan went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 7, 2017. She was born October 12, 1940 in Battle Creek, MI. Sis. Dunigan was baptized at an early age into the faith and fellowship of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Sis. Dunigan was employed with Kalamazoo Public Schools for 20+ years and held various positions of responsibility. Her most recent position with Kalamazoo Public Schools prior to retirement was as a Home Support Specialist. She took great pride in serving as a liaison between the schools and parents and serving as an advocate for children. Sis Dunigan also served as President of the SEIU, Local 517, AFL-CIO for many years. Sis. Dunigan was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for over 50 years. She served as a Vacation Bible School teacher, former President of the Mission Ministry, and member of Trinity Choir. Sis. Dunigan enjoyed attending the National Baptist Convention, and the Wolverine State Convention. She served as former President of the Chain Lake Women’s Auxiliary and was presented with a Proclamation from the State of Michigan in recognition of her service. Sis. Dunigan was also a past recipient of Church Women United Woman of the Year. As an only child, family was very important to Sis. Dunigan. The relationship with many of her cousins was more of a sister/brother bond. She took great pride in the love and care of her 7 children and grounded them with her favorite scripture Mathew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Her grandchildren provided her with much joy and she loved cooking them their favorite dishes. Sis. Dunigan was preceded in death by her Mother Nettie Zee Smith and Step-Father Thaddeus Echols. She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Peggy and Jeanette Dunigan; 5 sons, Robert, William, Douglas, Raynard (Lynette), and Edward Dunigan; 9 grandchildren: Adrienne, Torren, Kayla, Brandy, Raynard Jr., Aliyah, Steffon, and DeVante' Dunigan; and Marcus Owens, 3 great-grandchildren; 1 sister Lois Owens; 3 sisters-in-law Clara Stewart, Florest (Carl) Wilson and Peggy Dunigan; 1 brother-in-law, Charles (Anne) Dunigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Also, special friends, Mrs. Elizabeth Myles and Mrs. Janet Nichols.
