Ms. Dorothy Cobb

Dorothy Tecora Cobb passed away March 6, 2016. She was born to the late Arthur C. Crew and Lillian O. Dukes in Pickens, South Carolina by a midwife on May 13, 1948. Dorothy moved to Detroit at the age of 5 years with her parents. She attended Kettering High School and North Eastern High School in Detroit, MI. She studied business at Cambridge Business College and graduated 1984, alongside her sister Brenda. At the age 16, she started her own business as a wedding dress seamstress with her mother. She loved making clothes. Dorothy later gave birth to three children, whom she raised on the East side of Detroit. Later on in life in 1994, she relocated to Kalamazoo, MI with her daughter Jovanna. She was employed at Meijer’s and retired after 9 years. She made lots of new friends there and left a great impression on her co-workers. After retiring, Dorothy, who never gave up her passion for sewing, enrolled at Davenport University in Kalamazoo, and started making her business plan for Tecora's Boutique. Dorothy’s favorite oldie TV shows were Golden Girls, Murder She Wrote, & Hart to Hart. She also loved to watch Bones & Supernatural. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and woman. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. She was very inspirational to all who knew her. Dorothy will be greatly missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 sister, Diana Crew and a cousin, Umar "Cruz" Abdullah. She will always be remembered through her three beautiful children: Two Sons Anthony L. Crew, Nathaniel O. Cobb Sr, (Myltazaire "Shay" Cobb) and one daughter Jovanna C. Cobb; six wonderful grandchildren: Ciara C. Hall, Teouica J. Williams, Rickell Cobb, Trevon Cobb, Aniyah Tecora Cobb, Nathaniel O. Cobb II, Joshua I. Cobb; and two great grandchildren: Brandon Bell Jr. and Paris Deliza Tumpkin. She also left behind a sister, Brenda Fay Frederick and two brothers, Charles Hendericks (Kate) and Floyd Hendericks (Barbara); three nephews, Colby Allen Frederick Sr., Coldaro Marcel Frederick,& Leemuell D. Thomas; one niece Shikeyma Thomas; great-niece Jahdai Channel Frederick; great-nephew Colby Allen Frederick Jr.; an uncle James Hodge (Yvonne); cousins, Tyson (Debra) Hodge, Helen Robinson, Ruth, Taheeda; best friend, and Deborah Thomas and a host of other relatives and friends.
