He was born October 9, 1942 in Benton Harbor, MI, the son of Edward and Karine (Tyree) Sayles. He attended Benton Harbor Public Schools, and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corp. as a Director of Small Arms Rifleman. After serving in the military, Edward went on to work in many capacities and later became employed with the Chicago Transit Authority, and on February 1, 2004 retired after 26 years of service. Edward was united in marriage to Barbara Dukes-Jones on December 7, 2015. Edward was known to be a quiet man, but with a great sense of humor. He was a family man who loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He loved children and would teach and impart wisdom to them. He was a giving person who loved to give gifts. He was very outgoing and enjoyed bowling and fishing. He loved watching television shows from Svengoulie to Doc Marton or Father Brown. He also loved to play Yahtzee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward H. Sayles and Karine Butler; grandmother, Lillian Chapman (“mama”), Sister, Lavonne Posey, Brothers, Russell Sayles, Corbett Sayles, Anthony Sayles, Charles Posey, Alphonso Posey and Maurice Sledge. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sayles, three daughters, Serena (Morris) Harris of Atlanta, GA; Renee Dukes of Three Rivers, MI and Anita Jones of Silver Springs, MD; five sons, Augustus Sayles of Kalamazoo, MI, Edward Anthony Sayles of Oakland, OR; Michael (Aurora) Sayles of Portland, OR; George Jones of Benton Harbor, MI and Kenya Jones of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Six sisters, Willie Brown and Diane Adams both of Dallas, TX; Evelyn Grimes of Atlanta, GA; Amelia (Angelo) Scott of Chicago, IL; Renee Butler of Dallas, TX and Karen Posey of Benton Harbor, MI; four brothers, McNeal Posey Jr. (Debra) of Niles, MI; Ronnie Posey of Fort Wayne, IN; Jerome Butler (Annette) of Nashville, TN and Danny (Ruby) Sledge of Oshtemo, MI; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
