Mr. Emmett Spencer Jr.

It is with honor that we celebrate the life and legacy of Mr. Emmett Spencer, Jr. who went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 12:25 p.m. Emmett was born the 4th child to Emmett Spencer Sr. and Pauline May (both deceased) in Coatopa, AL on December 2, 1935. He moved to Kalamazoo, MI at the age of 21 to obtain employment. On January 21, 1962, he began his journey in marriage with the love of his life, Lucy A. Moore in a private ceremony in Kalamazoo, MI. Emmett was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years. He was employed by General Motors for 34 years. In addition, Mr. Spencer also owned and operated a successful Cement Contracting business for over 30 years before he retired in 2000. Emmett was a doting father in every sense of the word. His love for gardening will always be remembered. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett Spencer Sr. and Pauline Spencer;and his brothers, Percy Lee Spencer and Willie Fate Spencer. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children: Pamela (Donald) Bowden of Kalamazoo, MI; Sheila Spencer of Kalamazoo, MI; Emmett (Mary) Spencer III of Caledonia, MI; Stephen (Johnna) Spencer of Hoffman Estates, IL; Tiffany (Scott) Nicolow of Olympia, WA and Sheena N, Spencer of Atlanta, GA. Also, left to celebrate his life are, Lillie Belle Daniel and Mary Turnage both of Kalamazoo, MI; Sally (Leo) Rice of Columbus, OH; Carzella (Sam) Isaac and Sallie B. Spencer all of Forkland, AL; Shirley Spencer and Joyce Robinson both of Kalamazoo, MI; Jessie Moore of Mission Hills, CA; James (Mary) Moore of Kalamazoo, MI; Henry (Betty) Moore of Thomasville, AL; Roy Moore of Valencia, CA; Willie (Grace) Moore of Kalamazoo, MI; Wallace Moore of Palmdale, CA; Don (Doris) Moore of Lancaster, CA; Lisa (Jimmy) McKay of Palmdale, CA; Carlene Moore and Larry Moore both of Los Angeles, CA; Dino (Angela) Moore of Palmdale CA and Tony Moore of Rio Alto, CA; grandchildren, Shawn Bowden, Terrance Bowden, Chylonn Spencer, Sara Birl, Shaniece Birl; and Jarvis Birl (a special grandson) all of Kalamazoo, MI; Michael Spencer of Caledonia, MI; Stephen Spencer of Caledonia, MI; Anye Nicolow of Olympia, WA; John Spencer and Lucy Spencer both of Hoffman Estates, IL; a special aunt, Needa May Lockett; and a host of great-grandchildren, family, friends, and coworkers. A bearer of wisdom and love, he was always available for advice and support to his family. He will be greatly missed.
