McPherson passed away on June 16, 2025 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, surrounded by her loving son, Bryant McPherson, her niece, Charise McPherson, and her sister-in-law, Mel Durden. She was born on March 7, 1953, in Okolona, Mississippi to George and Lula Bell McPherson who both preceded her in death. In 1959, Erie moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan to live with her aunt and uncle Dave and R.E. Huggins, who also preceded her in death. Erie was a proud graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and continued her education at Parsons Business School. She worked for many years as a paraprofessional with the Kalamazoo Public School System until her retirement in 2009. Known for her warm heart and unwavering commitment to education, Erie touched the lives of many students and colleagues. She served as a beloved mentor and was a mother figure to countless neighborhood children, modeling positive values and leading by example. A devoted and active member of Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, Erie served faithfully on various committees. Whether helping in the kitchen or supporting fundraising efforts for church auxiliaries, she was always available and willing to serve. Her selfless nature and generous spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Erie will be deeply missed and forever remembered. She was preceded in death by her sister, Annie Lois Parker; her brother, George McPherson; her brother-in-law, Cornelius Parker; and her nephew, Ashauntee L. Parker. Erie leaves to cherish her memory her devoted son, Bryant McPherson; her nieces, Charise McPherson, Atesha Osborn (Chad), Chanelle McPherson, and Kanika Parker; her brothers, James Jones, Billy Pounds and Willie T. Pounds, her sister, Nancy Pounds; and her sister-in-laws, Nancy McPherson and Mel Durden. She is also survived by her beloved aunts, Mary Young, Ivera Gaston, Lessie Reed, Christine McDonald and Lois Anderson; her uncle, Lee Huggins; her great aunt, Loisteen Barbour and goddaughter, Quorsean Mattox. Erie also leaves behind 8 great-nieces, 3 great-nephews, and 3 great-great-nephews; special godparents, Elder Richard and Mother Gwindland Worthy, along with a host of cousins, extended family and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
