Mrs. Gussie Lee Drain-Gibson

Mother Gussie Lee Drain-Gibson went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 6, 2015 in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born February 18, 1923, the daughter of Oscar and Mary Alice (Blackmon) Drain, in Milner, GA. She accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Thomaston Public Schools in Georgia. Gussie united in marriage to Ulysees Gibson on February 18, 1944, and to this union their daughter, Annie Lee was born. She moved to Kalamazoo, MI in 1953 with her family and attended Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. B. Warfield, and later united with Bethlehem Church of God In Christ, in Battle Creek, MI under the leadership of Elder Charles Williams. In 1958, she joined New Jerusalem Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Elder Mack Russell, serving as the church’s District Missionary Assistant. She remained a faithful member of the church, which is now under the leadership of Rev. Rudolph Thomas. She was a pioneer and trailblazer and was awarded for her outstanding service and dedication. She also attended many church activities and conferences. Mother Gibson enjoyed singing and working in the kitchen ministry, especially during the holidays. She was a loving mother and grandmother who was admired by her family for her strength. She leaves a legacy of wisdom and knowledge through the love she showed and through the many lives she touched. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ulysees Gibson; her parents, Oscar and Mary Alice Drain; 3 sisters, Authar Mae Drain-Mann; Sallie Drain-Bloodworth and Lucy Drain-Harris; 1 brother, Bennie James Drain, 1 son-in-law, Otis Lee Wilson, Jr.; and a grandson, Otis Lee Porrit. She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted daughter, Annie Lee Gibson-Wilson, of Kalamazoo; 3 sisters, Estella Drain-Brown and Willie Mae Drain-Dowd both Kalamazoo; and Mary Ann (Clyde) Drain-Ferrell of Detroit, MI; 3 brothers, Bennie Gus Drain; John (Fannie Lou) Drain of Battle Creek, MI; and Leon (Mattie) Drain of Kalamazoo, MI; 4 grandchildren, Christopher, Otis III (Theresa), Marc Anthony Wilson all of Kalamazoo and Kimberly McMillian-Bouce of Indianapolis, IN; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 cousin, Jessie Mae Blackmon-Wilson of Milner, GA, and a host of other relatives,family and friends.
