Mrs. Martha Spearman

Martha McDonald Spearman also known as "Granny" and "Aunt Mot" departed this life July 5, 2013 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was born June 9, 1924 in Fayetteville, Tennessee to George McDonald and Estella Hamilton McDonald. Martha united in marriage to Cleofus Spearman in 1943. In 1964 he departed this life and went home to be with the Lord. Martha moved to Kalamazoo from Tennessee in the 1950's. She joined Second Baptist Church in 1972 where she served as a Trustee, President of the Fellowship Choir, member of the Mass Choir, Kitchen Supervisor, and a member of the Pastor's Aide. Martha was a dedicated employee of Bronson Hospital as a Dietician for 30 plus years. She also took pride in winning a tap dancing contest in her childhood in which she won a piano as the grand prize. Martha was known as an impeccable dresser, fantastic cook, and a loving and caring mother and dedicated friend to many. She was fun loving and full of life. Martha loved doing word search puzzles, connecting with family, and working in her church and serving God. Her favorite scripture was John 3:16. She was preceded in death by parents, her husband, seven siblings: Mary Icy, Ella Ray, Lorene, Annie Louise, Willie, George Curtis Jr., and James Alex; one grandson Damaine; and one sister-in-law, Pearl. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her children, Cleofus Spearman, Jr. (Nicy), Jerry Spearman, and Fannie Stevenson; 9 grandchildren, Terry, Michelle (100% Devoted Granddaughter), Willi, Lisha, Andre, Denice, Yvette, and Moommbi; 12 great-grandchildren, DeShawna (her Angel), Tony, Tamika, Terrence ("Nook"), Terry, Andre Jr., Jaeden, Jalen, Justin, DeMarcus, Devan, and Emanuel; 5 sisters-in-law, Hattie, Bernice, Essie, Helen and June; a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends. She was declared as the favorite aunt from her nieces and nephews who affectionately called her "Aunt Mot". She also leaves to cherish her memory her extended family: Kathy Green, Kevin and Pamela Wright, Michael Baker, Eugene Wright, and grandson, Andrew Bates; special friends, Ora Hunt, La Douglas Cole, Sarah Hodges, Elizabeth Ollie and family, Elizabeth and Ray Williams, B. Ford, the Hampton Family and special pet: "Puppy". Martha was the pillar of the family and hosted many family members moving from Tennessee to Michigan. She was a devoted, kind and understanding mother who walked with God each day of her life. She was a loving and caring soul who will be missed by many. ****PLEASE NOTE VISITATION TIME IS 6-8 P.M.
