Mrs. Mattie Lee Richmond

Mattie Lee Richmond departed this life on Monday, February 25, 2013, following a long fight with Alzhiemer's. She was born May 10, 1934 in Lee County, GA to the late Annie Mae and Saul Griffin. Mattie dedicated her life to being a loving mother, wife and Christian. She was employed with the Holiday Inn of Jackson, MI and also with several other custodial jobs for private families. Before matrimony, Mattie was blessed with one son, who she loved and cherished deeply and became to be so much like. She was united in holy matrimony to James B. Richmond and two children were born to this union. Mattie accepted Jesus as her Personal Savior at an early age. She was a faithful and devoted member of New Macedonia Baptist Church in Jackson, MI and served faithfully as a choir member and usher. Mattie devoted her life to her family and friends. She loved to be a "part-time mom" to many of the children (good or bad!) in her neighborhood. She loved cooking, cleaning, fishing, dancing, listening to gospel music and spending time with her sister, Rose Mae Lee. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends who loved her. She is preceded in death by: parents, Annie Mae and Saul Griffin; 4 sisters, Essie Covington, Lula Bell Wilson, Armella Gillham, and Mattie Pearl Willingham; 2 brothers, Jimmie Lee Griffin and William H. Daniel; one special son-in-law, Clifford Bernard Jones; one special granddaughter, Desi Reese and one nephew, Emmet Rogers Lee. Mattie leaves to cherish her loving memories: One daughter, Jimmata (Leon) Jones of Atlanta, GA; sons, John (Pat) Griffin of Jackson, MI; and James (Zakiya) Richmond Jr. of Bloomington, IL; one sister, Rose Mae Lee; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mattie leaves to cherish her loving memories: One daughter, Jimmata (Leon) Jones of Atlanta, GA; sons, John (Pat) Griffin of Jackson, MI; and James (Zakiya) Richmond Jr. of Bloomington, IL; one sister, Rose Mae Lee; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; two special friends, Mrs. Betty Treadway and Mrs. Evelyn Kizzy; two special nieces, Ms. Alicia Acree and Mrs. Rhonda Sims; one godson, Darrin Langford. Also, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
