Mrs. Lucy A. Spencer

It is with great joy that we celebrate the life and legacy of Lucy A. Spencer nee Moore who went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 6th at 7:42 a.m. Lucy was born the 8th child to Willie Carl Moore and Maize Lee Lockett (both deceased) in Dixon Mills, AL on October 28th, 1939. At age 14 she moved to Kalamazoo, MI to live with her uncle and aunt, Roy and Needa Mae Lockett. On January 21st, 1962, she began her journey of marriage with the love of her life, Emmett Spencer Jr. in a private ceremony in Kalamazoo, MI. She was employed by James River Corporation for 27 years before she retired in 1996. Lucy was a devoted wife and mother in every sense of the word. Her love for blues music, cooking the best food that life had to offer and love for travel will always be remembered. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 48 years, Emmett Spencer Jr.; children, Pamela (Donald) Bowden of Kalamazoo, MI; Sheila Spencer of Kalamazoo, MI; Emmett (Mary) Spencer III of Caledonia, MI; Stephen (Johnna) Spencer of Hoffman Estates, IL; Tiffany (Scott) Nicolow of Olympia, WA and Tahsheena Spencer of Atlanta, GA. She was predeceased by her parents and in-laws, Pauline Spencer and Emmett Spencer Sr. of Greene County, AL; her brothers, Johnny Jackson and John Moore; and her two sisters, Vesta Kennedy and Lillian McGee; brothers-in-law and great friend, Willie Fate Spencer, John Turnage, George Daniel, Percy Spencer, George Robinson and sisters-in-law, Ruby Spencer, Myrtle, lovingly known as "Tooney" and Josephine Moore. Also left to celebrate her life are step-mother, Velma Moore of Los Angeles, CA; three sisters, Joyce Robinson of Kalamazoo, MI; Lisa (Jimmy) McKay of Palmdale, CA; Carleen Moore of Los Angeles, CA; ten brothers, Thelma (Jesse) Moore of Mission Hills, CA; James (Mary) Moore of Kalamazoo, MI; Henry (Betty) Moore of Thomasville, AL; Roy Moore of Valencia, CA; Willie (Grace) Moore of Kalamazoo; Wallace Moore of Palmdale, CA; Don (Doris) Moore of Lancaster, CA; Larry Moore of Los Angeles, CA; Dino (Angela) Moore of Palmdale, CA and Tony Moore of Rialto, CA; sisters-in-law, Lillie Belle Daniel, Mary Turnage and Shirley Spencer of Kalamazoo, MI; Susie Jackson of Detroit, MI; Sallie B. Spencer of Greene County, AL; Sallie (Leo) Rice of Columbus, OH; Carzella (Sam) Isaac of Greene County, AL; grandchildren, Shawn Bowden, Terrance Bowden, Chylonne Spencer, Sara Birl, Shaniece Birl, Jarvis Birl, Michael Spencer, Stephen Spencer, Anye Nicolow, John Spencer and two special aunts, Needa Mae Lockett of Kalamazoo, MI and Lee Ella Lockett of Dixon Mills, AL. Lucy also leaves to cherish her memory a host of great-grandchildren, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends (including two devoted friends, Willie White and Mitch of Kalamazoo Dialysis), all whom she loved and adored. A bearer of wisdom and love, she was always available for advice and support to her children. She will be greatly missed.
