Affectionately known as Duffy, he was born November 23, 1955 at Borgess Hospital, the son of Jimmie Thomas and Eulalia Marie Henry—reared by Robert and Lenora Stewart and Uncle Bob and Aunt Nora. He was baptized at an early age at North Community Reformed Church under the leadership of Rev. B. Moses James. Duffy attended Kalamazoo Public Schools and graduated from Central High School. He later attended Western Michigan University. As a young kid, he played baseball at Verslius Park until the lights came on. He was the pitcher with a good strike out arm. He could have been a pro ball player, that’s how good he was! As a teen, he later became a professional pool player at Mugs Pool Hall. He also was employed and enjoyed his job. He later went on to work for Elmore Weatherspoon’s Pool Hall. He also worked with Elmore as security for Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Later, Duffy moved to Oakland, California, where he worked for FED EX for several years. He then returned to Kalamazoo and worked moving and setting up office spaces with his long-time friend Spike. In his final years up until July 7, 2025, Duffy was employed as a home care provider for his cousin, Cristopher Jones. He and his brother George were on a bowling league. Duffy often would bowl a 300 score proudly. He loved to watch sports and often rooted for the Detroit Tigers. Duffy was a stats person; he would pick-up the Kalamazoo Gazette and go through it thoroughly daily. He was a numbers guy and could run the numbers down and would play them every day. He was lucky and often would win. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother and father; all of his aunts and uncles; special uncles, J.B. (Gladys) and Tillman Jones; special aunt, and Willie Mae Jones. Also, his significant other, Ethel Rivers; his brothers, Jimmie Jr. and George Henry Sr.; special cousins/brothers, Zachary, James and Eddie Jones; his sister, Alverna (Glenn) Williams; brother-in-law, Ira Fuller; nieces, Tasha Washington, Shenika Fuller and Retima Wells; nephews, KeyShawn Washington and Cortez Glass; and stepdaughter, Theeaster Williams. He leaves to cherish his memory, his sisters, Evelyn (Lawan) Babura, Lenora (Roney) Williams, Wanda (Katie) Fuller, Donna Henry Hoskins, Juanita Smith; stepdaughter, Brenda Hopkins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren and friends.
