Walter A. Whitfield

Walter A. Whitfield lovingly known as “Jug”, went home to be with the Lord, May 14, 2013. He was born January 14, 1951, in Tuscaloosa, AL, the son of the late John H. Whitfield and the late Carrie B. Robinson. Walter confessed Christ at an early age at Beards Chapel A.M.E. Church, under the leadership of Rev. B. S. Smith. He went to Boteler High School in Tuscaloosa, AL class of 1969. Walter played numerous sports, but excelled in football and basketball. He was an Allstar High School athlete and was offered several college scholarships. After high school, Walter moved to Chicago, IL to attend college. In 2000, Walter moved to Kalamazoo, MI. Two days after moving to Kalamazoo, he found employment through a temporary service and later was hired on permanently with Hexacomb, Inc. (Pregis). His position there was Machine Operator. Walter was very well liked and respected by his coworkers and employer. He had a strong work ethic—never missing a day of work and being very efficient. Walter believed safety and work productivity was first and foremost. In 2001 Walter met Charlotte Ojediran and were united in marriage in 2008. Walter enjoyed most sports, especially football. He was a very active person and enjoyed weight lifting. Walter was a very private man, with a spirit of kindness about him. Walter enjoyed spending time with his family—spending time playing “one on one” basketball with his son Austin; playing board games with the family and also cooking breakfast on the weekends for everyone. He will forever be remembered and greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Greg Whitfield. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Charlotte Whitefield; 6 children: James Sesena of Phoenix, AZ; Robert Sesena of Coldwater, MI; Walter Whitfield Jr. (Amanda) of Battle Creek, MI; Dwane (Debbie) Whitfield of Coldwater, MI; Ausha Laws and Austin Douglas-Whitfield; 2 grandchildren, Logan and Legacee Lemon; siblings, George E. (Barbara) Whitfield of Chicago, IL; Gary J. (Vickie) Whitfield, Ronald Whitfield, Sherry (Charles) McClyde, Pam (John) Nero all of Tuscaloosa, AL; one uncle, Johnny (Lois) Robinson of Chicago, IL.
