Mr. Alonzo M. Cady

February 4, 1936 - July 14, 2017

Alonzo M. "Pete" Cady departed this life July 14, 2017. He was born February 4, 1936 the son of Alonzo Cady and Willie Jordan Lane-Cady in Samson, Alabama. At an early age Mr. Cady moved to Battle Creek, MI with his Dad and younger sister, Janice Cady. Mr. Cady attended Battle Creek Public Schools and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1954. After high school, Mr. Cady went to work for the Nabisco Company and also worked for The State Home Hospital, on Battle Creek. After the Nabisco Company relocated out of state, he purchased Mr. Don's Market on Angell Street and renamed it, Cady's Superette, which served the community for over 40 years, and as they say the rest is history! In 1957, Mr. Cady married Donna Jean Adams and to this union, two children were born, Debra and David Cady. Mr. Cady enjoyed entertaining family and friends on holidays and special occasions. He would prepare delicious southern style meals, that everyone enjoyed so much they would take home a plate! He was a people person and very family oriented. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna; daughter, Debra Cady-Artis; sisters, Peggy Everage, Janice Cady and Marilyn Walters; and brothers, Earl Cady and Ernest Lane. Mr. Cady leaves to cherish his memories, his son, David (Sharon) Cady of White Plains, NY; sister, Berry Burkes of Columbus, OH; brother, Thaddeus Lane of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Danielle Cady, Erika Cady, Ashley Cady and Brittany Cady, Deona Rudolph and Breona Rudolph; 7 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. There's not enough space to mention special friends, because all of his friends were special.
