Mr. Archie L. Hemphill Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

****NOTE: Visitation, Service Times, Location & Interment information Listed Below Mr. Archie Lee Hemphill (also known as “Cool Breeze”) departed this life peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2019 at Upjohn Care & Rehabilitation Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was born January 17, 1937 in Inverness, Mississippi the son of the late Walter Sr. and Elizabeth (Bush) Hemphill. The family moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1956. He accepted Christ early in his life. He united with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in the summer of 1958 along with his family where he remained under the leadership of three Pastors. He sung in the choir, was a member of the Usher Board he was in good standings and faithfully served until his health began to fail. Archie married the love of his life, Freddie Mae Whitfield of Kalamazoo, Michigan on April 7, 1979 at Friendship Baptist Church located on George Street. To this union joined one child, Sherry Whitfield. Archie loved singing in quartet groups. You could always find him sitting next to a boom box eating Twinkies and drinking an ice cold Pepsi. He also enjoyed talking on the phone as he would call and check on his family daily. If you knew Archie, then you know he LOVED him some white Wonder Bread and bologna. He was known for having a very smart mouth and could be very stubborn at times. If you needed him to straighten up, just say, “I’m calling Doris” and his response would be “Call her because she is the only person I will listen to.” Archie will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memories: One daughter, Sherry Whitfield, one grandchild and two great grandchildren all of Kalamazoo, MI; three sisters-in-law, Freddie Mae Hemphill of Chicago, IL; Jackie Hemphill of Gary, IN and Doris Hemphill of Kalamazoo, MI. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends for he will be truly missed by all.
