Corey Duran McKinney

Corey Duran McKinney entered into his eternal rest on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the age of 38. He was born on June 30, 1979, in Dallas, Texas, to his parents Norris and Dorothy McKinney. Corey received his formal education through the Kalamazoo Public School System. Upon completing his education Corey entered into the workforce in the manufacturing industry. On January 1, 2002, he welcomed one of his greatest loves into the world, his daughter, Kaliya Marie McKinney. On September 25, 2009, Corey was united in holy matrimony with Freda Reese. From that union came two beautiful sons, Corday Norris McKinney and Reese Joseph McKinney. Corey accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 2017 at Mount Zion Baptist Church. He was a very creative person who loved to tinker with things. He had the ability to fix almost anything, especially cars. An avid sports fan, his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. Two of his favorite pastimes were cooking and eating. He dreamed of opening a food truck. He loved spending time listening to music with his family and friends, especially during the holiday seasons. He particularly loved his mother’s holiday meals including: greens, chitterlings, dressing and his father’s barbeque on the 4th of July. A high spirited person, Corey was known as the life of the party. He had an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. He leaves behind to forever cherish his memory, his wife: Freda McKinney; parents: Norris and Dorothy McKinney; grandmother: Dorothy Westbrook; daughter: Kaliya McKinney; sons: Corday and Reese McKinney; siblings: Raquel (Glenn) Brown, Courtney McKinney, Chris McKinney and a special brother, Demetrius Campbell; nephews and niece: Camron Corner, Makai McKinney, Cariel McKinney, Chris McKinney, Jr. and Myles McKinney; uncles: Ray (Birdie) McKinney, Lemuel McKinney, Keyland McKinney and Cleve Westbrook, Jr.; aunt: Angela McKinney; special cousins: Steve and Damien Westbrook along with a host of other relatives, cousins and friends. Corey is preceded in death by his grandparents: Cleve Westbrook, Sr. and William and Zeaitice McKinney; Aunts: Joycelyn McKinney and Sharon Wilson; and Uncle: Noble McKinney and a special great uncle Larry Westbrook. Although Corey has departed from this life, his life and legacy will live on through all who knew and loved him.
