SOCIAL DISTANCING IS ALSO STILL REQUIRED**** ---------------------------------------------- Donna Kay White, affectionately known as “Dee”, made her transition Saturday, July 3, 2021 in Kalamazoo, Michigan surrounded by her family. She was born March 21, 1946 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Albert Lee White and Catherine Ruth White. Donna was brought up in Emmanuel Church of God In Christ from a young age. Having a love for singing gospel music, she became part of her church’s music ministry, which was directed by her mother, Catherine. Later in life, as she grew in the faith, she became a member of Christian Life Center in Kalamazoo, which later became Stones Church, under the leadership of Joel A. Brooks, Jr. She served there in the Children’s Ministry, while working in the “Sweet Victory” Store. She also served in the Usher/Greeter Ministry, on the Bereavement Ministry Team and Celebrate Recovery Team. Donna began attending Greater Faith Fellowship, under the leadership of JD Hayter., but later she resumed her membership at Stones Church and continued to serve in the Usher Ministry. She attended Portage Public Schools, graduating from Portage Central High School (1964). After graduating high school, she went to Western Michigan University, where she studied Social Work. She later went to Davenport College, where she studied Business Communications. Donna was employed in many capacities; beginning with the YWCA as a certified lifeguard and later Gibson Guitar Company. She went on to take a position at the Family Health Center in Kalamazoo, where she became Supervisor and Head of the Medical Records Department. Donna always had an interest in working with families and especially children. She dedicated fifteen years of service to the Kalamazoo County/ Juvenile Home Division as a Child Guidance Worker and Union Steward. After years of devoted service, she was promoted to the position of Family Interventionist and later became a Juvenile Probation officer with the Kalamazoo County 9th District Court. Several years into retirement she took a position through Kalamazoo Pubic Schools ALP program (Alternative Learning Program) as a reading interventionist. Donna had a strong love of family, notable for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also was a foster parent and a mentor to young women through “Girls on the Run”. Some of the hobbies she enjoyed were reading, bingo, swimming and cooking. She also participated in league bowling for many years. She was extremely outgoing and remarkably social.Donna loved interacting with family while playing board games, which showed her playful, competitive spirit. She loved to cook and could make fried chicken and macaroni and cheese like nobody else! One of Donna’s spiritual gifts was giving and sharing. She was known to be the type of person who would pour her life into giving to others. She loved to laugh with her sister Pam, affectionately known as “Pam-oo”. Donna will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert Lee and Catherine Ruth White. Donna leaves to cherish her memory: her two daughters: Whitni M. Roden (Nathan) and Traysi L. White; five grandchildren, Justin White, Calvin McDaniel (Toni), Shantel Pride, Sara Bullocks Hill (Monroe), Candace Gaston; step-grandchildren, MaRay Roden, Aleah Roden, Jakhari Simmons; great grandchildren, Kalaya White, Coriona White, Dulce White, Zoel McDaniel, Ennio McDaniel, Li’Zariah Lewis, Karmya Coleman, Amaria Rand, Monajha Hill; special nephew Clifford Julian II; and a wealth of relatives, friends and church members.
