Knox died unexpectedly Sunday, October 11, 2020 at his residence. He was born December 12, 1968 in Battle Creek, MI, the son of Clara J. (Knox) LaBarre and Dwuan R. Kerrens. Dwuan attended Battle Creek Public Schools and was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School in Kalamazoo, MI. Dwuan attended Upton Avenue Original Church of God in Battle Creek, MI under the leadership of Bishop Harold W. Speights. In his early years he moved from Battle Creek, MI to Kalamazoo, MI. On February 14, 1995, Dwuan united in marriage to Angela LaForce. He was employed at American Greetings and Bee Clean Building Services. He later became employed with A & L Janitorial & Cleaning Services of Kalamazoo, MI until his untimely passing. Dwuan affectionately known as “Mr. Smiley” and “D Knox” had a contagious smiley personality. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, dining out, watching movies, going to car shows, and collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia. He also had a natural gift for drawing and was skilled as a handyman. He loved to entertain his family and friends with jokes and stories and was known for his friendly conversations. Whether you knew Dwuan a short or long period of time you will find yourself in friendly and lengthy conversations with him. Dwuan will forever be remembered for his kindness and generosity. His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the hearts and lives of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George L. Knox, Sturla M. Knox and Roger Kerrens, and an uncle, John Kerrens. Surviving are his parents, Clara J. LaBarre of Kalamazoo, MI and Dwuan R. Kerrens, of Battle Creek, MI; brother, Roger Kerrens of Battle Creek, MI; sister, Camille Trueheart of Atlanta, GA; four daughters, Naquita LaBarre, Samantha Phillips, Hayley Knox and Carley Knox all of Kalamazoo, MI; one son, Cole Knox of Kalamazoo, MI and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by paternal grandmother, Ettarene Goodwin Kerrens of Murphysboro, IL; aunts, Althea Knox of Memphis, TN; Rosemary Knox of Kalamazoo, MI; Sharon Hillman of Atlanta, GA; Crystal Montgomery, of Champagne, IL; Greta Foster of Rockford, IL; Dorothea Richardson; Carla (Joey) Jones; Angela (James) Jackson all of Murphysboro, IL; great aunts, LouVenia Brewster of Chicago, IL and Bettie J. Peaks of Columbus, OH; uncles, George L. Knox of Memphis, TN and Byron Kerrens of Rockford, IL; Rickey Kerrens, Lewis Kerrens, Victor Kerrens and Tony (Kelly) Kerrens all of Murphysboro, IL; cousin Donnell Knox who was more of a brother to Dwuan; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
