He was born December 17, 1960 in Kalamazoo MI, the son of Mr. James B. Jones Sr. and Gladys M. Jones. Eddie was baptized at an early age at North Community Reformed Church, under the leadership of Rev. B. Moses James. He attended Kalamazoo Public Schools. He was employed as a Home Health Aide for his brother, Christopher Jones from 1986 until his untimely death. Eddie was the rock for his mom. When Chris a victim of a hit and run, Eddie is the reason he came home and was cared for all these years. He moved to Grand Rapids while Chris was in Mary Free Bed. For 6 months, Eddie never left his brother’s side, to assure his mom that Christopher was getting the best care possible. This allowed his mom to continue to work at Borgess Hospital an additional ten years, until her retirement. Eddie was the best caregiver his brother has ever had, hands down per his mom. He had a caring spirit. Every year, Eddie would buy his niece and nephews, their school clothes. He even extended that courtesy to the neighborhood kids and would buy for them as well. This went on for over five years until his incarceration. Eddie returned from prison forever changed. The demons of PTSD from prison haunted him to the end. We can never know the suffering that he endured. Today we mourn the loss of Eddie Jones. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. James B. Jones Sr.; brothers, Zachary R. Jones, and most recently James B. Jones Jr.; his nephews, Dawon (Jones) Holliman, and Walter Jones; maternal and paternal grandparents; several aunts, uncles, 9 cousins and his best friend, Steve White-Jackson. He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Mrs. Gladys M. Jones; sons, Eddie Marvell Jones, Malick Shanon and DeAnthony Smith (Autoi) and grandson, Gabriel (“Gabe”) LeeVarn Smith and his other grandchildren; brothers, Lamond (Victoria), Christopher Jones and sister, Ebony Flie; aunts, Betty Hughes, Caroline Johnson, and Martha (Roosevelt) Cox; uncle Leroy Smith; nieces and nephews, Naomi (Leroy) Watson; Lamond Jr., Zachery Jones, Chrystal Holliman, Justin and Evan Jones; Aries Jr., Arieonia and Aquariez Atlas; cousins: George Henry, Evelyn (Lawan) Babura, Percy (Duffy) Henry, Lenora (Roney) Williams, Wanda (Katie) Fuller, Donna Henry Hoskins, Anthony and Charles Hughes, JoAnn Embrey, Allie Buchanan IV, Allen, Felicia and Bernadette Cox and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. Also, special friends, Tyrone Hoskins, Keith Walker, Joe Todd, and Troy Phillips, Jr. “Big Ed”, as he was affectionately referred to was loved by so many. We love you, Eddie Jones! May Your Soul Rest In Peace.
