Mrs. Joyce M. Robinson

November 28, 1941 - December 29, 2016

Sister Joyce Marie Robinson completed her transition from labor to reward on Thursday, December 29, 2016. Joyce (Moore) Robinson was born to the union of Carl and Mazie (Lockett) Moore on November 28, 1941 in Dixons Mills, Alabama. Sis Joyce received the baptism of the Holy Ghost in 1956 at the age of 15. She graduated from Blount High School in Prichard, AL in 1960. Hence, that same year, due to her concern about the spiritual well-being of her relatives in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Sis. Joyce gave up the opportunity for a college education at the age of 18 to perform the work of an Evangelist, thus relocating from Prichard to Kalamazoo. Sis. Joyce received consent from National Bishop E.D. Davis of the Church of God Pentecostal of Mobile, Alabama to send a missionary group to minister to her family. Sis Joyce Moore-Robinson contacted Elder Lafayette Davis of Chicago, IL regarding coming to Kalamazoo and in January, 1961, Elders Lafayette and Elijah Davis and Deacons Andrew Jackson and Willie Mac Davis traveled from Chicago and held the first service in the Kalamazoo home of Sis. Joyce’s first cousin, Tommie Lockett and his wife Quella. Later, Tommie Lockett and his brother, Robert, rented a building at 612 N. Edward Street where services were held. As a result of Sis. Joyce’s persistence, the Church of God Pentecostal (COGP) was established in Kalamazoo by the late Bishop Lafayette Davis and his wife, First Lady Stella Davis. Due to Sis. Joyce’s efforts, many ministries have sprung up all across the country from the original COGP ministry in Kalamazoo such as in Battle Creek; Grand Rapids; Pontiac; Cleveland, OH; Paulding, Ohio; Tulsa, Oklahoma and in Mississippi. Also, Faith Temple Church of God founded by Bishop Tommie D. Lockett; Faith Temple Church Of God, California and Rock of Revelation founded by Bishop James Bailey and Visions of Victory Church of God, founded by Bishop Karl Wallace to name a few. Sister Joyce is an example that one person can truly make an incredible difference in the lives of others. On June 29, 1968, Joyce united in holy matrimony with George Robinson at the age of 26 and gave birth to three children, Christopher, Drucilla, and George. She absolutely loved being a mother and treated her children like royalty as they were her pride and joy. She was a phenomenal mother, mentor, and friend! Joyce had three grandchildren, Chaylise, Chay’Siah, and Chay’La who were the joy of her life! She was thrilled to be a grandmother and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. Sis. Joyce was gainfully employed by Jacobson’s and Consumer Powers. Later she became an entrepreneur where she successfully operated a daycare for over 20 years. In 1990, the late Bishop George and Sister Joyce Robinson were blessed to establish and pastor the Church of God Pentecostal in Paulding, OH. Some of her activities included shopping, going to the Farmers Market, and picking fruit and vegetables from the field and putting them away for the winter. She was an excellent cook and baker. And finally, she was a very kind, wise, meek, generous, and a classy woman of God with a quiet spirit. She fought a good fight, finished her course and kept the faith. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Bishop George Robinson; her sons George and Christopher; parents Carl and Mazie Moore; her father-in-law and mother-in-law George and Geneva Robinson, a special sister-in-law, Jessie Mae Moore. Also, she was preceded in death by four brothers, John Moore, John Lee, Thelma Moore, and Roy Moore; three sisters, Lillian McGee, Vester Kennedy, and Lucy Spencer. Sis. Joyce leaves to forever cherish her memory her loving daughter, Drucilla Robinson; three grandchildren, Chaylise, Chay’Siah, and ChayLa Robinson; a daughter–n-law, Alice Robinson and her step mother, Velma Moore. Eight surviving brothers are: James (Mary) Moore, Henry (Betty) Moore, Willie (Grace) Moore, Wallace Moore, Don (Doris) Moore, Tony Moore, Larry (Priscilla) Moore, Dennis (Angela) Moore, and step brother, Gary Griff. Also, two surviving sisters, Lisa (Jimmie) McKay and Carlene Moore, a sister-in-law, Mary (Frank) Taylor, a step daughter, Elizabeth (Tracy) Brown, a step granddaughter, Lyndsi Brown, a special friend, Rosa Young, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Sister Joyce was greatly loved and respected and will be tremendously missed by her family and friends.
