Mr. Lee Wilson Stuart Sr.

Lee Wilson Stuart, Sr. was born on August 27, 1925, to the late Emanuel Stewart and Charline Stucky in Hope Arkansas. Charline married the late Leonard Stucky, who raised Lee as his own son. After the death of Charline, Leonard married the late Carlee Stucky who also raised him as her own son. He was affectionately known as "Lee W." Lee attended the Hope Public Schools and graduated from Yeager High School. He attended Philander Smith College where he played on the 1st string football team. He was a WWII veteran and served in the United States Navy. Lee was an avid bowler. He bowled until the age of 83 years, until his health prevented him from bowling. He worked many years on several community boards: (KDAC) Kalamazoo Drug and Alcohol Council, Norway House, Vice President for the Douglass Community Center, and the Ecumenical Senior Center Board of Directors, where he would spend many afternoons for lunch, fun and politics. Lee saw the use of computers becoming a big part of society so he decided to take classes at KVCC and gained a great knowledge of computers. He was an active member of Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he served as Steward and Steward Emeritus, until his health prevented him from attending church. Lee was employed at Sutherland Paper Company (also known as Brown Paper Company), James Rivers, Georgia-Pacific and retired after 25 years of service. Lee passed away on May 23, 2012 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae and son Teddy. He will be remembered by his seven (7) children: Lee W., Jr. of Kalamazoo; Roslyn L. Banks of Ann Arbor, MI; Charline Y. Nelson of Battle Creek, MI; Freddie J. of Kalamazoo; Karen R. Howard (Philip) of Covington, GA; Cynthia Davis of Westland, MI and Cecelia Stuart of Sterling Heights, MI; two sister and brother-in-laws, Herbert and Doris Turner of Kalamazoo; Johnnie and Josephine Taylor of Detroit, MI; and brother-in-law, Era Lee Covington of Texarkana, Texas; 15 grandchildren, Anthony (Pamela) Stuart; Angela D. (Troy) Birdsong all of St. Louis, MO; Antwan (Christine) Stuart of Hawaii; Aaron Lee (Shelly) Stuart Sr. of Lousiana; Freddie Howell of Kalamazoo; Kevin Howell of Detroit, MI; Kenneth Alexander of Buchanan, MI; Shamu Martin and Juan Stuart both of Las Vegas, NV; Tijuana (Clarence) Conner of Detroit, MI; Damon (Tracy) Peterson of Chicago, IL; Ebony Stuart of Kalamazoo, MI; Daleson Davis of Taylor, MI; Terrance Lee Davis of Covington, GA; Marcus Davis of Covington, GA; 34 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and special friends.
