Mrs. Mary I. Crawford

Mary I. Crawford was born to George and Estella McDonald on June 13, 1915 in Fayetteville, Tennessee where she attended Lincoln County Public Schools. Mary was affectionately known to her family and friends as “Big MaMa”, Mae Icy, and Aunt Mary. She loved life and cherished every minute of it, she knew no strangers. Mary moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan in the mid 1950’s. She was a member of Second Baptist Church where she served faithfully in the Fellowship and Mass choir. She was an honorary member of the Upton Avenue Original Church of God where she loved attending special programs with her daughter and grandchildren. Mary was employed by Bronson Methodist Hospital for 25 plus years as a nurse’s aide. She was united in holy matrimony to Roy G. Crawford in 1963. She was a devoted, dedicated, faithful and loving wife. Mary was the mother of one beloved and devoted daughter Mary Ann Nichols whom she loved dearly. They spent endless hours shopping and traveling to Fayetteville, Tennessee and Wichita Kansas to visit family. Mary loved working in her yard but most of all spending time with her family and serving her church. April 10, 2013, while a resident at Tendercare Westwood Nursing facility, Mary heard the call from heaven she put on her wings and took flight to her mansion in the sky. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy, devoted daughter Mary Ann, 3 brothers; Willie, George and James Alex; 3 sisters; Ella Ray, Annie Louise and Lorene; granddaughter; Anita Ann; 3 great -great grandsons. She leaves to cherish her love and memory, loving sister; Martha Spearman; 6 devoted grandchildren; Darryl (Vickie) McDonald; Jacque (John) Wallick; Vickie L. McDonald; Stephanie (Willie) Moore; Robin Nichols; and Walter Nichols, III;13 great grandchildren; 18 great- great grandchildren; special nieces; Gail Brown, Fannie Stevenson and Michelle (“Shelly”)Stevenson; special nephew; Jerry Spearman; adopted grandson, Darwin Barbee; stepchildren; Roy, Jr; Vaniece and Vincent; special cousin Charlene Wortham; special friend/neighbors; Ora Hunt, Lillie, Ms. Snell and Joyce Wimberly, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Although she has left this earth her memory will live on forever.
