August 15, 2005 - July 25, 2021
Suniya Avanti Brooks, also lovingly known as “Ni Ni” and “Choc”, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 25, 2021. She was born March 15, 2005 the daughter of Lea Taque’ Braxton and Donnell Lee Brooks Sr. in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Suniya accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Trenches Church under the leadership of Pastor James Harris, where she was a part of the music ministry. She later became a member of Greater Joy Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Pastor Jeffrey Townsend. She attended Gull Lake Public Schools in Richland, Michigan from elementary school to high school where she was presently a 10th grade student at Gull Lake High School. Suniya had a passion to protect anyone who she felt was being mistreated or bullied because they were different. She took the initiative to become an advocate for the students, and her efforts in addressing diversity challenges and barriers in a school setting were noticed by school officials. Suniya was then called on to help coordinate a school assembly to address the need for diversity and protection for those being bullied which was a great accomplishment for her. Suniya was an over- achiever also in the work place. She was employed at McDonald’s and in her first week on the job she received a certificate for being the Star Employee of the Week! She was a very hard worker who was looking forward to purchasing a car with some of her savings. She had many hobbies and interests that included painting, singing and dancing. Suniya was also a “foodie” who loved to eat! Suniya was a “Sweet” sixteen year old with a beautiful smile. Her name definitely symbolized her sunny and bright personality which touched anyone she would meet. She will be greatly missed and forever in our memories and our hearts.
