Go To Stones Church Livestream __________________________________________ THE OBITUARY Tyra (Ty) was born August 7, 1953, in Gary, IN to Alvin Swanson of Gary, IN and Mable Brown of Kalamazoo, MI. He was preceded in death by both of his parents Alvin and Mable, his Grandmother Allie B. West, and his wife Karen Cleveland-Swanson. On August 16, 2003, he married the love of his life Karen Cleveland-Swanson of 18 years. Together they raised six children. Tyra (Ty) accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He was a faithful member of Stones Church for over 15 years. Tyra (Ty) loved the Lord and attended church regularly until he became ill. He believed in prayer and always looked to the Lord for guidance in his life. He was employed by the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission for over 20 years where he over seen the kitchen staff. While working there he was able to meet people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. He was well liked, and they all looked up to him and loved him as if he was their family. Tyra (Ty) loved to cook and have family gatherings. He loved spending time with his wife Karen and children, Grandchildren. He also liked to shop for suits and matching shoes. He always dressed up whenever he went to church or any events. He wasn’t camera shy when all dressed up. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his children, Charta (Eric) Battle of Kalamazoo, MI, Damaro Brown of Kalamazoo, MI, Nicole Cleveland of North Carolina, Sheena (Derrick) of Kalamazoo, MI, Jasnyne Kyles of Mississippi and Antoine Kyles of Kalamazoo, MI; 13 Grandchildren, Velora Grisby, Ebony Battle, Onyx Battle, Malia Marrow, Elijah Brown, Savannah Gordon, Madison Gordon, Asia Kyles, Messiah Kyles, Antoine Kyles, Ahmir Kyles, Ariah Kyles and Steven Guy; 5 Great Grandchildren, Staliyah, Tavaria, Nachelle, Eric, and Jade; his siblings, Nelson Brown of Kalamazoo, MI, David (Jesse) Brown of El Paso, TX, Lorraine (Demetrius) Austin of Indianapolis, IN, Tim (Tyronda) Brown of South Bend, IN and Michael (Teresa) Brown of Kalamazoo, MI; Nieces and Nephews, Latrice Shaw, Chance (Alyssa) Brown, David Jr, Erika, Kanesha, Latoya, Tayshra, Affica, Senator, Commander, Michael Jr., Alexandra, Roman, Makiyah and a host of Great Nieces and Nephews. Also, special friends Pastor Michael (Rosemary) Brown, Rodney, and Walter.
