Mrs. Willie Dean Mullen Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

****NOTE: FUNERAL TIMES & LOCATION LISTED BELOW**** Mrs. Willie Dean Mullen, lovingly known as “Momma Dean” departed this life peacefully on Sunday, July 15, 2018. She was born August 13, 1946, the first child of the late William Abbott Sr. and Mary Louise Walker in Okolona, MS. She moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan with her parents when she was four years old. She accepted Christ at an early age at was baptized at Second Baptist Church in Kalamazoo, under the leadership of Rev. Warfield. She later joined Galilee Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Mabry Gardner, where she sang in the choir. Willie attended Lincoln School and later graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School. She was employed for many years in the healthcare field. Willie loved to use the best gift God gave her and that was singing. She was the founder of the Heavenly Angels Quartette. She also was a member of the Silveraires and The Gospelettes. Along with using her gift of singing, Willie enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. In 1963, Willie moved to Racine, WS with her husband, Thomas Allen who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Desirae Mullen; her father William Abbott Sr.; her stepfather, Woodrow Walker; grandparents, Cornelius Williams and Robert Sample; mother-in-law, Trully B. Farr; father-in-law, Homer Lee Mullen; godparents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah Slaughter; four brothers, William and Robert Abbott and Albert and Earnest Walker; 3 sisters, Jonell Abbott, Shirley Ruth Lezine, and Mary Katherine Crouthers; 2 nephews, Daemond Burns and Lazell Abbott; and 1 great granddaughter, Gabrielle, 3 brother-in-laws, Ed Mullen, Andrew Mullen both of Racine, WS and John Wilson of Milwaukee, WS; and one sister-in-law, Madie Beatrice Riley of Racine, WS. She leaves to cherish her memories: her mother, Mary Louise Walker; husband, Romer Lee Mullen; 8 children, Gayla, Sheila, Romie (Jamila), Anthony, Terriell (Valerie), and Lavonda Mullen all of Kalamazoo, MI; Rochelle Mullen of Racine, WS and Lacresha Mullen of Nashiville, TN; two brothers, Charles (Lorraine) and Michael (Valerie); 3 sisters, Doris Abbott and Minnie Gordon and Barbara (Archy) Crouthers of Okolona, MS; 31 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren that were dear to her heart: Daquarion Allen and Aunautica Boyd; 2 aunts, Aretha Abbott and Mayballene Blackmon; and Louis Herron of Okolona, MS; 2 sister-in-laws, Joann Wilson of Milwaukee, WS and Lillie Mullen of Racine, WS and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends, which includes her special friends who live in Mobile, Alabama. Also, Sabrina Marshall, who took time to give special care for Willie.
