Mr. Cleophus Sturdivant

Cleophus Sturdivant passed away January 26, 2017 in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born July 18, 1935 to Cicero and Eddie Sturdivant in Joiner, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by five sisters, Irene (Hefner) Cutliff of Oklahoma, Barbara James of Texas, Bernice Williams, Eddie Marie Campbell and Vernetta Edmonds (John) of Lansing. The family moved to Lansing, Michigan where he completed High School and went on to obtain a graduate degree and several undergrad degrees. He was also a world traveler and ministered in many ways to those with whom he came in contact. Over the years, he worked in many service agencies. He retired from Kalamazoo Psychiatrist Hospital after 19 years of service. Cleophus was married to the love of his life, Catharine for 55 1/2 years and they have four children: Linda Rogers of Lansing, Daryl of Minnesota, Brian of Virginia and Vicki Stokes (Leonard) of Tennessee. They shared grandchildren Marque, Cherie, Brianna, Jaden, Dalton, Anissa, Arissa, Brooke, Amari, Isaiah; and 14 great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. There are many other family and friends whom he loved dearly and who loved him. Cleophus and his wife served faithfully as deacon and deaconess at Grace Communion International for many years before becoming affiliated with Mt. Zion. He and his wife campaigned to raise funds to build a school in Ghana and he saw this as one of his greatest accomplishments. He was presently campaigning for a bus for the children in Ghana through the newly founded: Sturdivant Heritage Project. Cleophus lived his life in a way that developed many "god" children across the country and around the world. Special are two Daughters- in-Love, Sharon and Barbara. Others who have touched his life are Frank and Vivian Crummel, Tom and Claire Ott , Dovanna Ware-Harris and Leslie and Arlene Reed. He was known for his kind and gentle spirit and lived the life of faith he talked about. He was a man of integrity and set the example for many. He loved the Lord and always desired to serve Him. He took God's word seriously. Cleophus also loved to sing and blessed many with his gift of singing.
