Use the GBC App, Instagram or Twitter _________________________________________ Obituary Emmanuel Alexander Browning, 18, of Kalamazoo, Michigan passed away on November 2, 2025. True to the meaning of his name, "God with us", Emmanuel carried a rare warmth, strength, empathy, and kindness that could be felt the moment he walked into a room. He was deeply devoted to his family, thoughtful beyond his years, and had a gift for making others feel seen, safe, and included. His steady presence, gently confidence, and genuine affection left a lasting imprint on everyone who knew him. A 2025 graduate of Portage Northern High School, Emmanuel was a proud Huskie and standout defensive lineman, known on the field as Number 58. Coaches and teammates remember him as the ultimate teammate, a loyal friend, and a tireless worker who elevated the people around him. Even when he could not play during his transfer year, he practiced with full effort, modeling commitment and leadership. His influence on the team's culture and spirit will be remembered for years to come. Emmanuel continued his journey at Davenport University on a Division II football scholarship. Although his time there was brief, his character and work ethic made a meaningful impact on coaches, staff, and fellow students. After returning home, he began working at Gridhawk, staking underground utilities, where the staff quickly recognized him as an up-and-coming leader. He was planning to further his education in Kalamazoo in the coming year. A natural entrepreneur, he also dreamed of scaling his window-washing business. He enjoyed time outdoors, especially hunting, and this past summer he developed a fast-growing love for pickleball. He cherished one-on-one times with his grandparents and shared a very special bond with both of his grandfathers, Carl Browning, Jr. and Rex Cunningham. He was often the one who helped bring peace and clarity to every situation, and he shared a unique and special bond with each member of his family. His character, initiative, and care for others spoke clearly of the man he was becoming. Emmanuel was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Andrew Hamilton Sr., Merrill Straham, Candies Lee Joplin, L.C. Cunningham and Josephine Milam; his grandmother, Caroline Milam; and his aunt, Catresa (Browning) Lytle. Left to cherish his memory and carry o his legacy are his parents, Jerry and Keisha Milam, and Brandon and Leaira Weller; siblings Jamir Weller, Jaleiya Milam, Kartier Weller, Jay'L Weller, Khloe Milam, Amani Weller, Zandaya Weller, Dayleah Weller, Honesti Milam and Jerry "Tripp" Milam III; grandparents, Melinda Barrett, Carl (Cortney) Browning Jr., Rex (Sonia) Cunningham, Stacy Hamilton, Jerry Milam Sr., Steven Stokes and Annaliese Hurd; great-grandparents, Carl Sr. and Catherine Browning, Bobbie Hamilton and Lottie Swain, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, teammates and friends. Emmanuel's joy leadership, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him and in every space that has forever been changed by his life.
