Mr. LeRoy Steele

LeRoy Steele was born July 26, 1928 in Calhoun, MS the son of Lee Owen and Lottie Steele. On Sunday, January 6, 2013 the Lord saw fit to call his soldier home. LeRoy received his formal education in Jackson, TN. After completing high school, he attended Auto Mechanic School where he received a certificate. LeRoy was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Mayola Davis. Eight children were born to this union. The family relocated to Kalamazoo, MI where he gained employment at Denooyer Chevrolet. He later was employed as the first black supervisor at Checker Motors, where he retired after 33 years of services. After retirement he followed his dream, and became Founder & Owner of Steele Auto Body Restoration and Repair for over 50 years. LeRoy accepted Christ at an early age. He loved God and was a faithful and devoted member of Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. He served in the following church organizations: Trustee Board Chairperson for many years, Transportation Ministry, Chancel/Sanctuary Choir, charter member of the Male Chorus, Men of Allen, Sunday School and Usher Board. He devoted his life to his church and family and had a special love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Owen and Lottie Steele; his in-laws, John Ed and Mazzeller Davis; 2 sons, Frederick Blake and LeRoy Steele; one daughter, Gloria Steele; two grandchildren, Kasaka and Demonkeith; 4 great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Julia; one son-in-law, Robert Miller; a brother, Clarence (Faye); two sisters, Rubie Mae and Allie Rene Steele; 4 brother-in-laws: Joe T. Davis, Albert Collier, JP Roseman and James Hopgood; two nephews and one niece. LeRoy leaves to cherish his loving memories: his wife of 63 years, Mayola; four daughters: Janice (Joseph) Nelson, Vickie Miller, Lottiey Rolan, and Allerene Brown all of Kalamazoo, MI; one son Jerry Leroy Steele of McDonough, GA; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Essie Mae Collier of Jackson, TN; Annie Lou Hopgood of Chicago, IL; Shirely Roseman of Coldwater, MS; a special niece, Alma Jean (AL) Harrilal of Georgia; 3 brothers, Robert Steele, of Chicago, IL; James (Corine) Steele and Levi (Dorothy) Steele of Jackson, TN; a special adopted son, Michael Crawford; two special friends, J.T. Lewis and Willie Lee Hospkins and a host of family and friends.
