Mr. William E. Fields

Mr. William "Manson" Fields was called home to be with his mom on her birthday, Tuesday, September 2, 2008. He was born March 6, 1943, in Aberdeen, Mississippi, the son of Caleb and Patsy (Smith) Fields, Sr. when you hear the name William Earl Sidney Hopkins Fields, you wouldn't know who we were talking about. But, when you say "Manson", everybody knew who you meant. If you didn't know "Manson", then something was wrong with you! He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Manson was a real sports enthusiast. Whether it was basketball, football, baseball, you name the sport, he loved it. He especially loved Detroit teams. He also loved golfing. In fact, he loved it so much that even the kids couldn't get in the way. All he had to do was give them a dime to play on the big slide, while he putt his way on the greens, rain or shine. Manson always had you laughin' and smilin' with a tease or joke. He would please any cook or chef, because he would never, ever turn down any food! Manson moved to Kalamazoo, MI at the age of 7, attending Roosevelt School and graduated at Vine Street High School, in Aberdeen, Mississippi. He returned to Kalamazoo, where he was united in marriage to Rosie "Doll" Gatson in 1961, and was blessed with 4 beautiful girls. Later in life, he was blessed with 3 sons. Manson worked for James Rivers Company, retiring after 25 years. He was preceded in death by his son, Willie Darmarco Daquell Page; his parents, Caleb and Patsy Fields, Sr.; brother, Caleb Fields, Jr.; 2 brother-in-laws, Art Poplar and James Burnett; 1 aunt, Emma Brooks. William "Manson" Fields leaves to cherish his life and celebrate his homegoing; 6 children, Robin (Rafiq) Siddiqui, Wanda (Otis) Sanders, Barbette (Brian) Beridon, Carla Fields, Randall Abbott, and Keyshon Fields; 1 brother, James (Ruby) Fields; 3 sisters, Ruby Burnett, Quella (Bishop Tommie) Lockett, and Pearline Poplar; 2 aunts, Matilda Pulphus and Gladys Gill; 1 uncle, Houston Dunigan; 13 grandchildren, William "Mikey", Andre', Kaliah, Darkisha, Otis Jr. ("Oddie"); Sheila, Matthew, Rebekah, Eric, Ayden, Aysha, Shylee, and Chayanne; 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends. Also, a very special friend, Jeanine Bell.
