Rhonda was born on May 3, 1967, to Leo and Olivia McFadden in Kalamazoo, MI. She spent many of her growing up years in her family’s Eastside home at 1523 Beacon St. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1985 and continued her education at Central State University, an HBCU in Wilberforce, OH. Her studies and student life experiences at Central State helped forge a strong sense of identity and a quiet confidence that Rhonda carried into the rest of her life. Rhonda lived a life rooted in love, service and faith, leaving a lasting imprint on everyone she met. For over 20 years, she dedicated her heart and time to the Kalamazoo Deacons Conference as the Clothing Director, where her compassion reached far beyond clothing – it restored dignity, confidence and hope. Rhonda cherished this role, as it allowed her to serve others while sharing her natural sense of style and love of fashion. Strong and confident in her faith in God, she walked with grace, welcoming all people with an open heart and a nonjudgmental spirit. Her faith guided her kindness and shaped the way she connected with the world around her. Rhonda’s greatest joys were found in spending time with family and friends, enjoying good food, shopping, and always taking pride in looking her best, from her outfits to her hair. Her warmth, generosity and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Rhonda was preceded in death by her father, Leo McFadden, sisters Sheila McFadden and Brenda Sanders, brothers Bruce McFadden and Sonny McFadden, and sister-in-love Rhonda Howard. She leaves to mourn her passing her three children, Dyland Hughes, Lynia Cummins and Tyler McClain; her mother, Olivia McFadden, sister Terri (David) Sieplinga and brother, Leo Christopher McFadden; two beautiful grandchildren, Mylah Hughes and Chase Hughes, who were the delight of her life; four nephews and one niece, Valadd (Christen) McFadden, Daniel McFadden, Olivia Thomas, James Thomas, and Christian McFadden; eight great nephews and great-nieces; and a host of cousins and friends, including friends-who-were-as close-as-kin, Rochelle Bynum, LaToyia Dunigan, Trenton Morris, Tammy (Thomas) Morris White, Whitney (Timothy) Walker Hogan, and Lori Smith; along with 3 very close cousins, Tonya Young, Meka Phillips and Margaret Perkins. A Memorial Service celebrating Rhonda Kay McFadden’s life and legacy will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 120 Roberson St. in Kalamazoo, with visitation in the hour preceding the service, and a fellowship luncheon following it at the Douglass Community Center, 1000 W. Paterson St.
